Web Hosting? I'm Lost!

What is Web Hosting?

You've made it to our site, and to this page in particular, so you're already an active part in using a web hosting service. A very brief description of what web hosting is, would be to use the landlord/tenant analogy. A web host (like NEXCESS.NET) is simply a virtual land owner and we rent bits of this virtual real estate to clients with a website they'd like to put online.

We have a detailed description of what web hosting is, and the various types of web hosting, on our main "what is web hosting?" page.

Our services currently include:

  • Shared hosting plans are very affordable, and great for small websites and first-time webmasters. All plans include full management and support.
  • Reseller hosting plans are essentially shared plans that include some features to allow users to "split up" their plan and host multiple websites with it. Great if you need a way to host multiple small sites inexpensively, or if you wish to resell and host sites for your own customers!
  • MaxVPS Virtual Private Servers are a sort of intermediate level between the shared/resellers plans and having a dedicated server. These plans offer the flexibility, security and stability of a dedicated server - while being generally cheaper and less powerful.
  • EliteRAX dedicated servers allow you to rent the resources of an entire web server, to configure and use as you see fit. These plans are great for larger sites, or for customers who need to host a large number of websites.
  • EliteRAX server clusters are geared towards the needs of large, high-traffic websites that require multiple servers to handle their load.
  • EliteRAX colocation services allow you to place your own equipment in our data center. We offer everything from colocation of a single rack-mounted server to an entire cabinet of servers or even "bulk" caged space within our Michigan data center.

It is important to note that simply providing the web hosting service (space for rent) is only part of what is needed to be "online". You will still need the actual website itself - something to put in that space you've rented. If you're lost about how to get started - or what to do once you have a site, please contact us. If we can't help you directly we'll be happy to point you in the right direction.
